About Me

My name is Jennifer Barker and I am currently the UBC CITE Cohort Coordinator for the 2014 - 2014 year.  I am also a Faculty Advisor and Instructor in the B. Ed. program.  Additionally on Fridays, you can find me in the classroom at Errington Elementary School in Richmond, teaching Grades Three/Four.

Over the 15 years of my career, I have taught Kindergarten through Grade Five and even spent one year as a Teacher Librarian.  I am passionate about teaching, and have a love of Mathematics and Technology.  I have my Master in Educational Technology and am currently taking Mathematics Masters level courses at UBC.

I believe Mathematics should be approached using student-centred, Inquiry based learning.  Some may refer to this as "Reform Mathematics" when compared to more traditional approaches that focus on explicit teaching of discrete skills and concepts through teacher telling and students doing lots of practice with a...
